Patoka sequence of covenants in Hawke's Bay
Connecting fragments of natural areas in a working landscape
Most of our lowland ecosytems exist today as fragments of their extent prior to human influence.
These need to be reconnected by corridors for plants and animals.
This aids ecological diversity and the survival of species that require larger natural areas than the remnants they are confined to.
At Patoka in Hawke's Bay, neighbours are co-operating with each other and with councils to make connections between bush fragments in catchment areas.
